Lunch and Learn helps students find calling

Lunch and Learn was organized once again on Thursday, Sept. 14 by Director of Career Counseling Sonia Smith. The topic was “What can I do with a Major in….?” The presenter was new Student Success Advisor Brittany McKenney. McKenney told students that it was okay to not know what you plan to major in. She also explained that people from all majors can succeed in different fields. She told the students at the event that you still have time to explore and adapt to new insights. McKenney shared her own personal experience with college and said that in her first year she was undecided. McKenney eventually found the business management major and used her skills from college to help others. Smith also spoke about past experiences with students, she knew who were passionate about one subject, but wanted to work in a different career field. “Your major does not define you. You can major in what you are passion about or what you are interested in and you can go into a career field choice that is different,” Smith said. Lunch and Learns will be continually organized by Smith this semester. If students attend events there will be a raffle in December. The next upcoming Lunch and Learn will be a Kentucky Law Schools Panel hosted by Dr. Nancy Cade Thursday, Sept. 21. “I feel like the Lunch and Learns is not just an opportunity, but a necessity for helping students further their knowledge about the direction they want to steer their lives,” Adam Hoteling, freshman, said.
