University of Pikeville Theatre group took a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland to perform an original work called The Farmers Lit the Fields on Fire.
There were four actors: Matt Conn, senior; Sarah Hackworth, senior; Bethany Jervis, junior; and Dylan Martin, sophomore as well as four crew hands: Mackenzie Fraley, sophomore; Andrew Letscher, sophomore; Alex Hoffman, sophomore; and Audrey Caudill, sophomore. Kim Willard, assistant professor of theatre, directed.
They all worked hard to in preparation for a 10-day trip overseas. They rehearsed every day for about a month straight before their decent on Aug. 4. Once the talented group arrived, it was game on. They performed six times over the course of the week at the annual Fringe Festival and received much praise for their work.
“Going to the Edfringe in Scotland was an overwhelming and incredible experience. The students were so professional and worked so hard. The city was beautiful and so friendly, and everything absolutely exceeded my expectations,” said Willard.
The script was written by Canadian Michael Ross Albert. He designed this original work around the students. He used the actors’ life stories and turned them around to make a hit drama. Albert is looking to advance this play further in his home country.
