On Sept. 5, 35 UPIKE students had the opportunity to speak to a representative from The University of Kentucky’s School of Information Science. UK Student Affairs Officer, Tamika Tompoulidis, held four sessions around campus and provided students with information about their new master’s program in Information Science. According to Tompoulidis, students with a range of educational degrees, such as psychology, business and communication, can pursue the master’s program without a technical background. “For those students considering the master’s program, my advice to them is to apply early and to learn what their interests are for the program. Our master’s program has a variety of information communication technology paths, so students can customize their degree based on the career they are interested in,” Tompoulidis said. Because it is a relatively new program, class sizes are smaller, allowing one-on-one interactions and flexible schedules. Students can choose to specialize in three categories: Health, Technology and Analytics, and Policy and Regulation. “This program helps fill in the gaps for things employers will need. Because it is a new field, as technology evolves, so does the program,” UPIKE’s Director of Career Counseling, Sonia Smith said.
