This past weekend, Feb. 4-5, the Bears opened their season against St. Andrews. In the first game, inning 1 started with a 1-0 lead, with a walk by Josh Bailey and a double by Justin Beatty. Dalton Dahley was lights out the entire game for the Bears with a 7-inning shut out to help the Bears win 3-0. During game 2, Saint Andrews answered back with a 4-spot off Bryce Carden in the first inning. After a rough inning, Carden held the knights at 4 runs. The Bears had many opportunities with the bases loaded, but they couldn’t find a way to get runs across. The bears lost the second game 4-1. During game 3, the Bears’ bats came alive by scoring 17 runs in game 3. Saint Andrews could not handle the potent offense that the Bears had. Saint Andrews could only manufacture three runs against Aaron Hedgecock. The Bears won game three with ease 17-3. During the final game, the Bears opened up with 5 runs in the first inning but the Knights weren’t going away easy. The Knights answered back with 4 runs in the 1st inning off Bailey. As the game continued, the game was tight with a score of 7-7 in the 5th inning. Brandon Sewell came in to pitch in the 6th inning with bases loaded, no outs and gave the Bears a chance by stranding all runners. The Bears’ bats were silent in the top of the 7th. The Knights lead off with a double in the bottom of the 7th and the Knights sacrificed their runner to third giving them a chance to win the game. The Knights won game 4 with a walk off base hit by a score of 8-7. “Even though we lost two games, we could’ve easily swept them. We are very excited for this year and this program.” The Bears record is 2-2 and their first home game is Feb. 18 against Goshen College.
