On Jan. 9, 11 students went with professor Nancy Cade to the Washington Center to attend to seminars on a variety of topics. They stayed in D.C. for two weeks. Everything was provided, minus transportation and personal expenses. Students went to different sites to hear different speakers. One such speaker talked about religious liberties in the U.S. They also were able to visit the Australian Embassy. Students also toured the Holocaust Museum and participated in a tour of many of the monuments. The attendees had free time in the afternoons and during the weekend to explore the city on their own. On Martin Luther King Day, the students each volunteered for a service project in the D.C. area. The highlight of the two weeks was going to see the inauguration. Students arrived 5 hours early just to get a good spot. “It’s always an incredible opportunity to witness history,” Thomas Francis, junior, said. “The seminar was an awesome opportunity! We witnessed so many incredible things and learned about politics from some of the best speakers. If you ever get a chance to work with The Washington Center, don’t pass it up,” said senior, Buddy Forbes.
