Film Professor travels to Hawaii to represent UPIKE

During the winter break, Andrew Reed, assistant professor of film and media, traveled to Hawaii to represent UPIKE at a humanities conference. At the conference, Reed talked about crowd funding and his documentary “I’m with Phil.” Universities from around the world attended this conference. During the conference sessions, Reed showed “I’m with Phil” for an hour to show others at the conference what he did to produce his documentary and crowd funding. Crowd funding is used to help creators with certain projects, not just movies. Conference sessions lasted from 9:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day; therefore, Reed got the chance to participate in activities such as hiking, snorkeling with sea turtles, and touring the island. “It was really amazing,” Reed said. Reed mentioned that the trip to Hawaii almost felt like he was traveling to another country because of the scenery. “Hawaii has 11 of the 13 climates in the world and the only thing they didn’t have was an extreme desert that doesn’t get rain for over a year,” Reed said. For anyone interested in buying or renting Reed’s documentary, it’s on Amazon and you can visit the website www.imwithphil.com.
