Are you a communication major or minor? UPIKE offers an honor society for communication majors and minors to provide opportunities for leadership and fellowship. Last Tuesday, Nov. 29, the communication honor society had an induction ceremony with seven new members added. The group is led by president Miranda Davis, senior; vice president Aaron Asbury, junior; secretary Derrick Harris, senior; and treasurer Billy Cochran; junior. In order to be in the communication honor society, you have to be a communication major or minor, with at least 12 hours in communication, a 3.0 GPA in communication classes, at least 30 total hours, and a cumulative GPA of 2.5. The honor society sponsored movie night last week, Thursday Dec. 1. More than 60 students attended Elf. Tuesday, Dec. 6, the honor society will be participating in community service at Pikeville Wal-Mart, ringing bells and spreading cheer for the Salvation Army. “This honor society gives students leadership opportunities. It increases interactions with faculty and other students, and it enables students to serve others thanks to the community service they do every semester,” Chandra Massner, associate professor of communication, said. “Congratulations to our new inductees. We expect a positive and productive spring semester. We also would like to congratulate Derrick Harris, Dario Bennett, and RJ Gordon for graduating this month. They will be missed.”
