The University of Pikeville welcomes new students to campus each semester. Kasey Tackett, a 19-year-old from Pikeville, began his freshman year this fall. Tackett previously attended Shelby Valley High School where he graduated earlier this year. He is majoring in secondary education with an emphasis on history and says he “loves it.”
Tackett calls the university home and is already settled in for the upcoming semesters.
“I attend the University of Pikeville because it is the closest university to my home, it’s free, and my wife also attends here. Not to mention, the campus creates a friendly atmosphere and is small, so classes are always close together which is something I really enjoy,” Tackett, said.
Though it is just Tackett’s first semester at UPIKE, he is off to a great start.
“So far, I love all my classes and professors. The classes are relatively easy and are so much better than high school,” he said.
Tackett will be graduating with his degree in the year 2020 in which he will be off to begin his dream job.
“After college, I plan to get a job close to home in one of the surrounding high schools. I want to be history teacher,” he said.
