‘The Crucible’ set for this week at JWT

Arthur Miller’s classical play, The Crucible, is being staged at the Jenny Wiley Theatre this week.
The theatre is located at 218 Second St. in Pikeville, Ky. The Crucible was written in the 1960’s as a response to McCarthyism, the trials that went on, and the Red scare during the Cold War.
The play itself is scary, but not in a horror kind of way. Kim Willard, assistant professor of theatre, described the play as “scary in a social kind of way; that if someone goes crazy and people start to follow.”
Performances are scheduled for Sept. 29 – Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m.
The cast is made up of UPIKE students, but the audience can expect professional scenery and lighting.
Tickets are available for $7, but students with a UPIKE ID will be admitted for a discounted price of $5. Willard’s acting classes can volunteer as ushers for the production and be admitted for free.
