Pianist performs

International concert pianist, Nada Loutfi, performed for a crowd of students and faculty in Booth Auditorium Tuesday, Sept 20. The event was part of the annual Humanities on the Hill and was organized by UPIKE’s Music Program. Loutfi was welcomed back to this year’s event by professor of music, Dr. Phillip Westgate. “She’s a very interesting performer and dynamic artist,” Westgate said. “I wanted my students to understand classical music is accessible, to find a connection with it and to see something different than someone perform rock or pop or country.” Of the near 100 people in attendance, UPIKE sophomore Travis Stamper left with a different perspective on classical music. “I feel that students get a lot of benefit from concerts like this and humanities courses,” said Stamper. “Before, I thought of concert pianists and their music as boring. After the concert, I’ve eaten my words. It was fantastic in terms of music and performance.” It’s still unclear at this time if Loutfi will be a part of next year’s Humanities on the Hill, but she says that she would love to come back and play.
