Staff Spotlight: Courtney Lovern
0Written by Lauren Bevins
Courtney Lovern is a new admissions counselor at the University of Pikeville. Lovern attended Belfry High School and had no plan on going to college until student success counselor, Mandy Stacy, encouraged her in March of her senior year. Lovern was interested in sports, but never played them. She was fascinated with watching them and being in the environment, so when she attended UPIKE, she became a stat keeper. She wanted to study sports broadcasting, but things changed. Lovern started writing for The Bear Facts and The Williamson Daily News, and after graduation, she worked with East Kentucky Broadcasting as a news reporter. She has a degree in communication and said, “With a communication degree, you can become more marketable because you can adapt to different situations that your job might present.” Lovern loves her job and UPIKE. “Coming to work here is like homecoming for me. Usually people don’t come back after they graduate, but I loved it so much I wanted to come back,” she said.
