The foreign language honor society inducted new members recently. Ten students from the University of Pikeville were honored for their work in world language study and inducted into Alpha Gamma Mu.
The new inductees were Alexandria Bartley, Thomas Browning, Erica Hamilton, Laken McKinney, Erica Newsome, Amber Nickles, Samantha Wilson, Ashley Copley, Courtney Lovern and Cheyanna Scott.
Ella Smith, assistant professor of Spanish, feels that Alpha Gamma Mu is “more inclusive” honors society since it offers the chance to acknowledge those interested in multiple languages.
Alpha Gamma Mu is known for many different international service projects, such as collecting Christmas gifts to send to needy children around the world.
“It is an honor society, but we like to be an active honor society,” said Smith.
Induction into the society requires the completion of two foreign language courses with an A as the final grade. The University of Pikeville also requires that inductees have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
