The University of Pikeville hosted the second annual Interprofessional Education (IPE) event Monday, March 16, and Wednesday, March 18. Interprofessional education refers to the occasions when students from two or more professions in health and social care learn together and appreciate all fields during their professional training with the object of cultivating collaborative practice for providing client—or patient—centered care.
The students involved in this annual event included KYCOM students, Appalachian College of Pharmacy students, social work students from UPIKE, and students in UPIKE’s nursing program.
During the event, students learned to appreciate different fields in healthcare and value every profession’s attributions in the case-study that was presented.
“It was a very educational experience and it was a great way to connect with professionals from other fields,” Whitney Rowe, senior social work student, said.
