Bear’s Growl: Schedule
0Written By Matthew Logan
Snow days have always been a welcome part of any school year, giving students the chance to be children again. However, there can be a downside to all the winter fun: making up the lost school days.
Most school systems take away days from spring break. For example, all of Perry County no longer has a spring break due to missing so many weeks from the weather. Other school districts may have days stored up for the weather.
Unfortunately, the University of Pikeville has done neither. It is good that we will get our spring break as scheduled, but the administration agreed to cut into our finals week to make up for the lost days.
To start, the annual study day, which was Tuesday, May 5, will no longer happen this year as it will be a make-up day. Study day was also the day in which Midnight Breakfast was supposed to be hosted.
“We are still having Midnight Breakfast,” vice president for academic affairs Thomas Hess clarified. “It will be held on May 6 from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m.”
On top of that, some students will be having finals on Saturday, May 9, as a way to make up the lost days.
Primary concerns with this setup are how are students going to study for exams? If the weekend is now booked solid with testing, and study day is gone, where does that leave time to study? Many students are outraged and have called for change. Study day has been a staple in the University for years, and many of the students greatly appreciate the time study and make sure they pass their exams.
