Art Reception to be held in Ford Gallery
0By Abigail Gibson
A current exhibit of student work is on display in the Janice B. Ford Gallery, located on the first floor of the Allara Library.
A reception in honor of the student artists will be held Monday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Ford Gallery. The public is welcomed and encouraged to recognize the accomplishments of these student artists.
This year’s student artists are: Allyson Gibson, Kenda Albaree, Paige Tackett, Eady Beth Connally, Larry Ratliff, Tanner Tackett, Amanda Hord, Lauren Vickers, Isaac German, Otis Manning, Charles Mims, Bradley Loader, and Courtney Haney.
The students worked in a variety of media such as, acrylics, watercolor, graphite, and mixed media.
The winner of the “Janice Beeler Ford Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts” is Allyson Gibson. The award recognizes an artwork that has gone beyond meeting an assignment’s requirements to showing an individual, unique interpretation of an idea or concept.
The gallery was established in memory of Janice Ford, who taught at the university for many years. Ford fostered an environment of encouragement and support for all students to experience the act of making art. The exhibit is meant to recognize outstanding examples of student artwork that was created the preceding academic year. So, it is an honor for a student’s work to be included in the exhibit.
