Led by Shelby Fromm’s 222 average, the University of Pikeville women’s bowling team won its ninth straight tournament winning at the Florida State Seminole Classic at Capital Lanes during Christmas break.
The third seed knocked off second-seeded Emanuel 2-0 in the semifinals and beat the host Florida State 2-0 in the finals. The Bears second junior-varsity group won the JV division.
Jenna Coldiron paced for the JV winners with a 216 average, also would have been a top score on the varsity side as well.
Brianna Larson, a senior on the team, said, “The Florida state tournament really tested us as a team because we went into the second day in third place, and we have never not been leading. We came together as a team, never gave up, and proved to ourselves that we really are one of the best teams in the country.”
The women’s team continued its dominance as it demolished the field at the 2015 Bulldog Classic hosted by Union on Jan. 25. It was the third Mid-South Conference event of the season, and the Bears finished comfortable tallying a total pin fall of 7,215, nearly 600 pins ahead of its nearest competition. UPIKE also took home the junior-varsity title. Campbellsville finished second with a total score of 6,664 and St. Catharine rounded out the top three with 6,476 pins.
