UPIKE welcomes a new hall director, Sara Osborn. Osborn graduated from UPIKE in 2012, the first graduating class under the university name. She earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education and is currently working on her graduate degree in counseling from Morehead State University.
“It has always felt like a second home to me,” said Osborn about why she decided to come back to the university.
She has known many of the students since she was in high school, and she made even more friends when she came to the university as a student herself.
Osborn is currently the hall director for Condit, Derriana, and Gillespie Halls. Osborn was a resident assistant for three years in Derriana when she was a student.
“It’s been a learning experience for me to transition into the director position,” Osborn said.
Aside from being a hall director on campus, Osborn was also offered a full-time position as guidance coordinator for the UPIKE Upward Bound II Program. Osborn served the program as a peer mentor all four summers when she was attending UPIKE as a student and throughout her experience, she saw the difference that the Upward Bound Program makes in the participants’ lives.
Osborn said, “When I saw the position advertised several months after I graduated, I was very excited to join the staff and work with the participants full-time. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing each student evolve from year to year; I feel like Upward Bound and all the staff whom dedicate their time and energy to this program have a part in that evolution. All in all, I am so glad to be back home at UPIKE.”
