The UPIKE baseball team held its blood drive at the Kentucky Blood Center for the losing team in the annual Blood Series between Team Orange and Team Black.
The reason behind the Blood Series is to have fun as a team and give back to the community. This tradition is a great idea to get the team closer before the players leave for Christmas break.
“This Blood Series brings our guys together and gives them a great chance to win a spot before going back home. Also, it builds team chemistry and brings a lot of team camaraderie,” said Coach Chad Gassman.
According to the Red Cross, there is someone in the United states every two seconds that needs blood. Also, there is more than 41,000 blood donstions thats are needed each day.
In the United States there are 9.2 million blood donors. The number one reason people says the want to donate blood is to help others. That one donation can save up to three people’s lives.
