The UPIKE football team played the University of Lindsey Wilson Saturday, Sept. 20 and came out with a loss, making the football record so far 1-2. UPIKE was down 14-7 when freshman quarterback Brennan McGill threw an interception. Lindsey Wilson then scored a touchdown to continue the lead over UPIKE. Late in the third quarter, Eddie Miller was unable to keep ahold of the ball turning into yet another interception, and Lindsey Wilson was able to turn it into another touchdown. It seemed as if UPIKE couldn’t quite get it together and came out with 44-14 loss.
Assistant Coach Justin Grayek said defensively they got everything they expected to see. They played them well on the first and second down, but just couldn’t seem to get off the field on third down.
“The guys were competitive in situations things just didn’t go our way,” said Grayek.
Terrell White played hard all game. He led the team in tackles, and he’s a guy to look out for, said Grayek.
Student Assistant Michael Gillispie said they made a few mistakes on seven plays that gave Lindsey Wilson almost 200 yards and without those mistakes being made, they would have gave themselves a better chance at winning.
Gillispie said a few mental mistakes were made and they just gave Lindsey Wilson the game defensively. Coming off this disappointing week. If they clean up those mistakes and come into this week’s game with a better mind set and play like they play in practice, they’ll come out with a lot better game, said Gillispie.
