Saturday night, Sept. 20, the men’s soccer team played a physical game against St. Catharine. There were a lot of fouls in the game and there was no score in the first half. UPIKE’s goalkeeper Diego Rivas had two great saves going into the second half.
St. Catharine scored the first goal of the second half. Two minutes later UPIKE’s Mateus Meira answered back with a penalty kick after a handball in the box, but St. Catharine was too much for the Bears as they scored two unanswered goals in the 69th and 70th minutes of the game.
The next day, the Bears traveled to West Virginia to play against West Virginia Tech. The Bears’ lost the match 9-0 against the former national champion.
“Both game were very physical and strategic,” sophomore Gabriel Gaviolli said.
The Bears are looking to bounce back after the loss as they play Cumberlands, Ky., Saturday, Sept. 27 in Williamsburg, Ky.
