The University of Pikeville Bears softball team was swept in both doubleheaders this weekend as they traveled to Ohio to face Shawnee State on Friday, April 18, and Rio Grande on Saturday, April 19. On Friday, UPIKE narrowly fell to Shawnee State, 4-2 in game one and 8-5 in the final matchup.
“We were never out of either game against Shawnee and were only a few hits away from winning both of them. I think that our team can play with any team in the conference,” said Taylor Weeks, freshman infielder.
“Our team was playing solid and putting up a good fight, but the hits we were getting were right to people,” said Dominique Melvin, freshman infielder.
The Bears will get their next chance at redemption at home on Friday, April 25 against Campbellsville.
