Last Sunday, April 20, the Pikeville United Methodist Church presented a combined worship service at 10:30 a.m. in Booth Auditorium at the University of Pikeville. The service had music from the chancel choir to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and scripture lessons from the senior pastor, Rev. Bradley Smart.
The Easter Sunday service started with a prelude by Jerry Bishop who gave words of welcome and some announcements. After that, a small greeting took place and was accompanied by praises like “Christ the Lord is Risen today” and “He Lives” with the help of the chancel choir. The auditorium was almost full, with about 500 people attending the worship service.
“The chancel choir sung really well. They are really good singers,” junior Rodrigo Galdamez said.
The scripture lesson of this service was on Luke 24:1-12 which talks about how the two women looked for the body of the Lord Jesus and how the angels told them that he was not there and that the son of God had risen.
“It’s a reminder for Christians that Jesus rose from the grave,” Junior Diego Rivas said.
The service finished with special music from the chancel choir titled “No More Night” and “How He Loved Us.” The Pikeville Methodist Church is located at 107 Main Street, Pikeville, and can be reached at 606-437-7315 or at www.pikevilleumc.org.
