Baseball continues its struggle

The UPIKE baseball team played hard Wednesday, April 16, but fell 6-3 to Point Park. The Bears had the lead going into the seventh inning but could not hold on. They were up 3-2 when the seventh inning began but could not escape with that lead giving up three runs. Point Park put up one final run in the 8th to make the game 6-3 and that’s the way the game ended.
“The frustration we’ve felt can be seen in this game. We’re always right there but the hits just never come when we need them to,” said redshirt freshmen pitcher James Brooks.
The Bears went to Shawnee last weekend. The baseball team played one game Friday, April 18, playing its heart out but coming up short 2-1. Then Saturday, April 19, was a doubleheader where the Bears did not play that well, losing 11-4 and 5-1. It has been a tough stretch for the Bears whose record stands at 21-24.
“In the games on Saturday, we just could not hit with people on base. Having said that, I feel like we out hit Shawnee in all three games,” said junior catcher Sean Ryan.
The Bears close out the regular season in a series this weekend at home with Georgetown. UPIKE looks to turn it around and make it to the conference tournament. The Bears need to play well this weekend to get the invite for the conference tournament.
