Devotional: His will
0By: Lindsey Chaney
1 John 5:14,15 reads: “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.” (NIV). You may have not noticed it before, but the verse reads, if we ask anything according to His will, then we will have what we ask of Him. Simply because we ask God for a new opportunity, a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a new car that does not mean that we will receive it according to His plan.
God knows what you need in your life and when you need whatever that certain thing may be. He sees the bigger picture; you may only see your life from a now perspective, yet He can see till the end of time. He knows how each occurrence will affect your life now and how it will affect your future. Thinking that God answers each thing we ask of him, many people also believe that God will not give us a task that is too difficult to handle; however, this is not true. God wants us to have opportunities in life that we alone could not achieve. He wants us to learn to rely on Him, His strength and His omnipotence.
