UPIKE and Gamma Sigma Chi team up for West Care Shelter
0The University of Pikeville teamed up with the fraternity of Gamma Sigma Chi this past week to raise money for the West Care Homeless shelter as a way for UPIKE to become more involved in the community.
Jody Grigsby, president, headed the fundraiser with hopes of giving back to those less fortunate for the holiday season, with the assistance of other members of the fraternity and Emily Romito, student life coordinator.
The food drive lasted for three days and occurred from noon until 3 p.m. at the Benefactors Plaza. Along with food, donations were also collected, with many generous contributions.
“To give something to those who aren’t currently able to do it for themselves is a great thing. I would love to see more of that from people on campus, especially our own fraternity!” Grigsby said.
In total, the fraternity of Gamma Sigma Chi was able to collect boxes of canned goods and other foods, along with a grand total of $608 that was given to the homeless shelter.
“Thanks to everyone that came out to help, and those who donated as well. It’s awesome that we were able to come together as brothers and help out our community!” Bilal Ahmed, philanthropy chair, said.
